PERMANENT Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Water, Emil Mc Garrell has said that the partnership between the government and the private sector is critical for the future of the building and construction landscape of Guyana.
He was at the time delivering the welcoming remarks at the opening ceremony of the Third International Building Expo, which came to an end last night. It was held at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, East Bank Demerara under the theme “Embracing Standards – Building the Future”.
He said the Building Expo “is a recognition of the strengthening partnership between the government and the private sector for achieving the goals of sustainable communities.
“This partnership has been pivotal in the expansion of the construction sector and of the housing sector; the partnership also is critical for the future building and construction landscape of Guyana – it is, indeed, important for the challenge ahead,” he recognised.
As Guyana moves forward, the Permanent Secretary said, they must relinquish old methods and practices that are no longer relevant to the new building context and construction challenges.
“We must embrace new standards; we must learn to employ better construction methods and transform our building codes and conduct in order to achieve greater security and safety in our construction sector,” Mc Garrell encouraged.
“Building Expo Three is another step in fostering the kind of construction sector that mitigates against natural disasters, that ensures greater customer satisfaction, and that maintain high building standards and codes that every Guyanese could be proud of,” he stated.
