THE Venezuela Institute, through the Venezuelan Embassy, hosted the annual wreath-laying ceremony in honour of the anniversary of the Bolivarian Republic. The event was attended by the Ambassador of Venezuela to Guyana, Mr. Dario Morandy as well as representatives of several local groups.
The programme included a formal session with a religious service officiated by Roman Catholic Father Malcolm Rodrigues and singing of the Venezuelan National Anthem.
Speaking through interpreter Kawall Persaud, Ambassador Morandy described the occasion as a very historic observance with deep meanings for the Venezuelan people.
He explained that it was 201 years ago that Simon Bolivar started a revolution that sought to bring independence to Venezuela and create a linkage between the Caribbean and Latin America.
According to him, the idea was to have the nations, including the United States (U.S.) be recognised as one nation.
The diplomat said the dream of Simon Bolivar has never been halted to this day and the process is being continued by the country’s current President Hugo Chavez, as it is only the latter who has the strength to fulfill Bolivar’s dream.
The envoy said the occasion is also important to his country because, through the struggle of the revolutionary Bolivar, Venezuela is today independent and will never, ever again, be a colony to any country.
Venezuela was able to free itself from the American yoke through President Chavez and will never give up its freedom and independence but continue in its fight to unite the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean.
Morandy observed that relations with Guyana and other countries of the Caribbean and Latin America are testimony to the determination of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to foster cooperation among the states of Latin America and the Caribbean.
He announced that, within three months time, the people of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela will be going to the polls where they will exercise their franchise in electing the leader of their choice.
Venezuela remains committed to linking Caribbean, Latin America – Ambassador Morandy
