High winds wreak havoc on West Berbicians in the wee hours of Thursday

IN THE WEE HOURS of yesterday morning, high winds swept the West Berbice coast, destroying two homes in Belladrum and severely damaging another in neighbouring Paradise village. The single-storeyed Belladrum homes of Lexford Henry and Asquith Harry were bowled over by the ferocity of the early morning high winds, which were accompanied by rain, thunder and lightning.
The roof of the neighbouring playfield was sent crashing into Rensford Hudson’s home at Paradise, badly damaging the structure and jeopardizing the welfare of his wife and eight children.
Luckily, no one was reported injured in this maelstrom.
Chairman of the Profitt/Rising Sun Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC), Mr. Lincoln Saul, said the NDC responded promptly in assisting Mr. Hudson with a carpenter, who effected the necessary repairs to his home. The two damaged homes in Belladrum will have to be rebuilt, Saul said.
