By Rajendra Prabhulall
A SIXTY-SIX-YEAR-OLD woman, Mavis Rebai is a patient at Suddie Hospital, nursing a fractured hip, after she was viciously attacked by a bull while walking in Richmond Village, a week ago. Her husband, James Rebai said she had just left their home at Lot 162 Richmond Housing Scheme, around 13:00 hrs and was going to collect her pension book at Anna Regina, also on Essequibo Coast, when the animal charged and butted her in the back.
He said she landed on the road several feet away and could not get up. But, as the bull was getting ready to make another charge, several neighbours rushed to her assistance.
Although she was taken to Suddie Hospital and admitted, her husband said she will be transferred to Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) shortly.
Meantime, he is calling on the police to do a proper investigation into the incident.
He said he and another man, whom he paid, captured the vicious bull and took it to the Anna Regina Police Station where it was impounded.
According to him, however, the bull was released to its owner three days after and the [olice took no action.
He said his wife is in serious pain and cannot walk and there is nothing the police are doing to give them justice.
Rebai said cattle owners within the township of Anna Regina are deliberately allowing their animals to roam the streets, the main public road, market areas, school compound and other public places on a daily basis.
Residents of Richmond Housing Scheme said livestock rearers are using the shoulders of the streets to graze their animals.
