Police grant bail, UG sends professor on leave
UNIVERSITY of Guyana (UG) Professor Alvin Bowen, who is accused of attempting to sexually molest a second year Business Management student, has been released by Sparendaam Police, at East Coast Demerara, on $50,000 station bail. It is reported that investigators of the allegation have, meanwhile, asked for advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Speaking by telephone, an official of the UG Public Relations Office, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the institution would not be able to make any statement on the matter until the investigations are complete.
It has been alleged that, on June 25, Bowen who promised to privately tutor the student, tried to make a sexual assault on her when they were alone in his office.
Bowen has been sent on leave pending the outcome of the probe.
