JUSTICE James Bovell-Drakes, on Wednesday upheld the legal submissions of defence counsel Rabrindranauth Singh, in the case of the State versus Thakumanie called ‘Dayo’, the woman who is indicted for manslaughter. The ruling ended the voir dire (trial within a trial) which started on May 29, when prior to the opening of the State’s case, Singh advanced arguments in the absence of the mixed jury at the Berbice Assizes.
Meanwhile, State Prosecutor, Rhondel Weaver sought an adjournment, to today, as witnesses were unavailable.
The accused is alleged to have unlawfully killed her husband Yodha, on April 25, 2008, at Bennet Dam, Rosignol, West Bank Berbice.
