Santa Rosa is champs of Region One
-Hosororo and Port Kaituma disqualified
FOLLOWING the disqualification of Hosororo and Port Kaituma, Santa Rosa who defeated North West Secondary 3-1 last Saturday, was crowned regional champions of Region One in this year’s Digicel sponsored nationwide Inter-Secondary School football tournament.
Hosororo Secondary was disqualified from the tournament for fielding an over aged player, with their coach Nigel Peters admitting to committing the offence to tournament coordinator Lavern Fraser, when confronted yesterday morning.
According to Peters, his players felt demoralized in the first half of their matchup against former champions Port Kaituma, who found themselves in conflict with the age stipulations by fielding several over aged players, so he (Peters) decided to field a few such players for the second half himself.
North West Secondary is the second  placed team in the Region after their 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Santa Rosa Secondary last Saturday, which meant that the Region’s final was played on that day, instead of yesterday, when it was scheduled to be contested between Santa Rosa and the winner of the Hosororo/Port Kaituma encounter, which the latter won 11-0.
Meanwhile in, other results from Saturday, Morucca Secondary defeated Mabaruma 3-1, Aurora Secondary going under to Charity Secondary 8-1, and New Opportunity Corps (NOC) sailing past Cottonfield Secondary 5-1.
Action in the tournament which has several prizes up for grabs, including a magnificent $500,000 which will go towards a project to be undertaken by the winning school, will continue today with several matches across Guyana.
