Two bodies recovered from Puruni River mishap

FOLLOWING the boast mishap which occurred in the Puruni River on Monday in which two men went missing after the boat they were travelling in capsized were identified as George Bowman, 35, of Lot 535 Section ‘B’ South Sophia, Greater Georgetown and Devon Cadogan, 23, of Lot 22 West La Penitence. Post mortems  were performed on the bodies yesterday but the police said that the results were not available yet.
The bodies of Bowman and Cadogan were recovered from the Puruni River on Wednesday and transported to the city.
Both men, miners, were with a group returning to their mining camp when the boat overturned causing them to be thrown overboard.
Soon after they went under water and disappeared.

It was about 07:00 hrs on Monday the group was retuning to their mining camp in Mazaruni when tragedy struck.
The men had journeyed out via the Puruni River to celebrate Fathers’ Day at the nearest landing and it was when they were returning their boat overturned and they ‘went down’ without surfacing and disappeared.
The men were travelling with a group of about 12.
