Two men hospitalised after Essequibo Coast accidents
THIRTY-FIVE-YEAR-OLD motorcyclist Asif Mohamed, of Henrietta on the Essequibo Coast, is fighting for his life in Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) after a head-on collision with a minibus Sunday night along the Lima Public Road, also on the Essequibo Coast.
It was reported that the motorcycle was speeding at around 19:00 hrs, with the rider heading to Anna Regina from Charity when he lost control and ended up in the path of the minibus.
On impact, the person riding pillion was hurled into the air and landed several feet away, but escaping serious injuries. However, Mohamed was badly injured.
One of his eyes and some of his teeth were missing and he is also suffering from other injuries to his head, face, arms and back. His entire body is badly bruised.
Mohamed and the pillion rider, known only as ‘Bush’, were picked up unconscious from the public road and rushed to the Suddie Hospital where they were admitted but, subsequently, transferred to the GPH.
The minibus, which was proceeding to Charity from the Mainstay Lake area on a special hire, was impounded at the Anna Regina Police Station for continuing investigations.
Meanwhile, in another Sunday accident, a canter truck from Walton Hall crashed into a road light pole on the Devonshire Castle Public Road.
Reports said the driver, Imitaz Khan swerved to avoid hitting an intoxicated man who was riding a bicycle carelessly and hit the post.
The entire cabin of the canter was damaged and so was the pole while an unnamed man, who was sitting in the passenger seat, suffered serious injury. He, too, was rushed to Suddie Hospital and admitted in an unconscious condition.
The accident occurred during a heavy rain shower and both Khan and the drunken man, said to be the cause of the mishap, are in police custody assisting with investigations.
