— slain man to be buried on Wednesday
A POST-MORTEM examination performed on the body of the murdered Mark Solomon  revealed that he died from multiple incised wounds to the body. The three suspects who had allegedly knifed him to death were all arrested between Wednesday and Thursday last, following police investigations, and are presently in custody.
Solomon would be laid to rest on Wednesday following a church service at St. Stephen’s Church at Adelaide and Princes Streets, Georgetown. The cortege would pass through Albouystown before the body is interred at the Le Repentir Cemetery.
From all indications, Mark Solomon, 36, of Lot 154 Non Pareil Street, Albouystown, Georgetown was trying to do the right thing before he was attacked and fatally stabbed on Tuesday night (June 12, 2012) following a quarrel with a co-worker over a piece of jewellery which he wanted to be returned to its rightful owner.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law Enforcement) Mr. Seelall Persaud said that, based on investigations carried out so far, Solomon and the suspect had had a quarrel earlier in the day, and that row erupted after a colleague’s gold band had accidentally fallen into the Demerara River and was observed by both Solomon and the suspect. The suspect paid a man to dive into the murky waters to retrieve the band, and it was handed over to the suspect.
Solomon saw what had happened, and he confronted the suspect, a colleague, to return the gold band to its owner, but the suspect refused, and this move upset Solomon. The two men had a physical confrontation in which Solomon was cuffed to the mouth.
The Deputy Police Commissioner explained that Solomon left the workplace; and it was after the suspect had finished working that another confrontation between them occurred at Mc Doom, Greater Georgetown, where Solomon was reportedly attacked by the suspect and two others persons, and sustained three stab wounds to the body.
The suspect is currently under police guard at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), nursing chop wounds to his hands, including, a severed finger.
Adrian Austin, Solomon’s brother, has described his sibling as an easygoing fellow who, since serving time in prison, had been reformed and was kind to everyone.
Austin added that his brother was very much into boxing, and had represented several organisations, but was not known to be a troublemaker of any sort.
He described his brother’s death as shocking to him and his mother, since Solomon had not been into any kind of trouble and had been working at Pritipaul Singh Investments (PSI) Limited for sometime.
Austin’s only consolation was that his sibling died doing good, and he felt it was only a matter of time before the perpetrators of his brother’s killing would be brought to justice.
There continues to be a decrease of murders during this year, in comparison to the same period last year, 2011. A total of 57 murders were recorded at the end of May 2011, in comparison with 51 murders for the similar period this year; an 11% decrease. Of the 51 murders, 23 were of the disorderly type, two were committed during armed robberies, seven were domestic-related, and three were execution type; while the other 16 are so far unclassified.
