WDFA Stag Beer tourney continues this weekend

THIS weekend the Den Amstel Community Centre ground, which is deemed the home of football on the West Side, will again come alive when the West Demerara Football Association (WDFA)-organised, Ansa McAl Stag Beer-sponsored senior football league continues with double-header fixtures. Tomorrow from 14:00hrs, Eagles will face Wales United while at 16:00hrs Beavers will do battle with Pouderoyen Young Achievers and on Sunday, the matches will continue at the same time, with Nimes/Bagotville taking on Seawall while at 16:00hrs Den Amstel will look for more points when they meet Stewartville.
In the opener of the league, Uitvlugt Warriors and Den Amstel got full points against Stewartville and Seawall respectively, and there will be a fierce battle for the top four positions
Under player/coach Keron Schmidt, with support from Kester Tyrell and Jason Carroll, Eagles will look to defeat Wales United, whose lineup for the first match is unknown.
Former national player Anthony Harding, supported by Ashley Harding, Robert Stephens, Timothy St Hill, Maxwell Trotz, and Adron Joseph, will lead Beaver’s challenge against Pouderoyen Young Achievers, who will depend on Sherwin McIntyre, Dexroy Millington, Marvin Josiah, Mark Bobb and Rawle Haynes to see their team to victory.
Nimes/Bagotville lineup against Seawall will see the likes of Isaiah Jerenson, Keron Aaron, Abu Johnson, Marlon Ajeday and David Rodney.
Seawall will be coming strong, as they will be trying to recover from their opening loss to Den Amstel. Their line-up will remain unchanged with Delon Josiah, Sherwin Liverpool, Keon and Mark Boyce leading their attack with Julius Griffith doing duties as goalkeeper.
Den Amstel will enter with the Payne brothers Gideon and Joseph, with support from Andre Hector and Travis Hilliman, who will be bent on securing maximum points from their matchup against Stewartville.
Tournament sponsors Ansa McAl Limited under their Stag brand will have special giveaways and other promotions leading up to next Tuesday’s World Cup Qualifier match between the Golden Jaguars and Costa Rica at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.
