DEPUTY Police Commissioner (Law Enforcement) Seelall Persaud has said that the recent murders/suicides which occurred in quick succession within the past week all point to escalation in the breakdown of personal relationships over time. Last Sunday, Kingsley Thompson killed his wife, Rhonda Thompson, 35, at her home at Onderneeming, West Coast Berbice. He was later found with his throat slashed and with signs that he had ingested poison after police; acting on information received and with assistance of public-spirited citizens, arrested the man at Hopetown Backdam, West Coast Berbice. He was taken to the GPHC, where he later succumbed.
And on Monday, Ramesh Sattaur ingested poison after he had clubbed his lover, 46-year-old Mohini Gobin, called “Baby”, to death. Police said that the domestic worker of Sparta, East Bank Essequibo had gone to the Silver Beach, Roden Rust, EBE workplace of a man with whom she was having a relationship, at about 07:30 hrs on Monday, June 04 last, during which a quarrel ensued and she was allegedly struck on the head with a piece of metal pipe.
The suspect was later arrested by police, but succumbed to the effect of a poisonous substance he had ingested.
The Deputy Police Commissioner disclosed that since all four persons had died in those murders/suicides, there was nothing the police could do; but as it relates to other murders, the police have been doing some work in bringing perpetrators to justice. Two persons have been charged on Tuesday for murders committed.
Persaud said that in regard to the Port Kaituma, North West District (MWD) murder, in which a miner chopped to death a 22-year-old worker after he had found him and his 16-year-old lover in a compromising position, last month at a mining camp, the accused is yet to be located, but the police are still hunting that suspect.
Junior Joseph, 22, of Onderneeming, Essequibo Coast was killed after he had received multiple chop wounds from the owner of a land dredge he was working at, while a teenage girl with whom he was found in a compromising position was seriously injured and is hospitalized.
That incident took place on May 22, 2012 at Big Creek, Port Kaituma, North West District (Region One (Barima/Waini) at about 22:00 hrs.
