Children of woman hammered by paramour call for justice

— recovering slowly, but unable to speak
SHARON Goodridge, called Sharon Howell, 39, a mother of 10 who last week was brutally stabbed about the body and beaten in the head with a hammer by her reputed husband, is said to be recuperating but remains an in-patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Goodridge’s condition is listed as guarded, but she is sitting up and responding by way of showing signs, but not verbally. She underwent emergency surgery to repair severe wounds to her head, after she had been struck repeatedly in the head with a hammer. Her alleged attacker, her reputed husband, had also stabbed her with a knife to the body several times during a domestic dispute.
The  Lot 81 Freeman Street, East La Penitence, Georgetown resident was attacked in the early hours of Sunday last, after she had returned home from work, accompanied by her reputed husband, Aubrey Peters, aka Rodney, 40. In a fit of rage, Rodney launched the brutal attack on the woman in front of some of her children.
Relatives said that the quarrel stemmed from a disagreement Goodridge had with Rodney over a female colleague at her workplace, and when she reprimanded him he got angry.
Then he began to stab her with a knife he had taken from the kitchen, and he also armed himself with a hammer with which he struck her in the head several times before he fled the scene and went to a relative’s home on the East Bank Demerara, where he ingested a poisonous substance.
Daughter of the injured woman, Tammica James, told this publication that her mother endured a turbulent relationship with Rodney, who was deemed very jealous and was very much involved in what she did, where she went, what she wore, and whom she talked to.
At the time of the attack, eight of the ten children were living with Goodridge and Rodney, one of whom he had fathered; and because they witnessed the attack on their mother, they have been very traumatized. They are currently staying with their grandmother in Sophia, Greater Georgetown.
Peters also told this publication that her mother lived in fear because Rodney was very abusive. A year ago he had stabbed her about the body repeatedly, and had often threatened to end her life.
The woman’s children remain optimistic that their mother would fully recovery from her injuries in the process of time; but they have also called for justice to be served.
