KING’S Jewellery World donated 56 pairs of sunglasses to the Guyana Society for the Blind at its store in Quamina Street, Georgetown, on Friday. Manager of the business, Ms. Anya Persaud told the Guyana Chronicle they had some new, unsold ones in stock and decided to donate them to a good cause.
It was the first such gesture but she assured it will not be the last.
Meanwhile, speaking on behalf of the recipients, President of the Society, Mr. Cecil Morrison said he is pleased as the gifts will be very beneficial to members.
He said the donation was made at a right time because the visually impaired keep walking into obstacles and damaging their sunshades.
Morrison said the spectacles will be distributed equally amongst the membership.
Ms. Theresa Pemberton and Ms. Venus Atkinson accepted the largess on behalf of the Society.
