LEROY Brumell and Seelall Persaud are expected to receive their letters from the Office of the President confirming them as Deputy Police Commissioners filling the more than two-year gap that the Guyana Police Force has been operating. Both Brumell and Persaud have for years served as assistant police commissioners.
Over the past months, Brumell has been serving as the country’s Acting Police Commissioner after former Commissioner of police Henry Greene found himself ensnared in a sex scandal. Seelall Persaud has been serving as the country’s crime chief over the years.
Speaking with the Guyana Chronicle last evening, newly appointed Deputy Police Commissioner Leroy Brumell said that he thanked the opposition leader and the President of Guyana for having the confidence in him thus elevating him to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police.
Commissioner Brumell told the Chronicle that he was informed that president Ramotar and Opposition Leader David Granger had agreed that he and Seelall were going to be confirmed as deputy commissioners.
Brumell added that he was also informed that he has been instructed to continue acting as the country’s police commissioner.
Asked about his confidence of support on the job from other senior ranks and officers of the Guyana Police Force, Brumell immediately expressed confidence that he will be able to enjoy the support of the other ranks of the force as he has always done.
He attributed that support to his style of leadership where senior officers are allowed to operate and perform their duties without interference from him. He added that his style of leadership is allowing persons to freely do the job they have been placed to do, without breathing down their backs.
With the appointment of the two new deputy commissioners, the Force is now left with seven assistant police commissioners, namely Balram Persaud, George Vyphius, Gavin Primo, Carol Lewis Primo, David Ramnarine, Derrick Josiah and Clair Jarvis.
