Murray hits hat-trick while Team Guyana continue to impress

ALPHA United forward Andrew Murray struck a hat-trick of goals for Albouystown, while Team Guyana continued to impress on the second night of action in the Banks DIH/ Guinness-sponsored exhibition tournament, which took place at the East Ruimveldt hard court last Wednesday night. Murray found the back of the net in the 9th, 16th and 21st minute respectively, as Albouystown chalked up a 3-0 win over D’Urban Street.
Team Guyana skipper Daniel Favorite got a brace in the 26th and 30th minutes of play and, along with single strikes from Allan Kennedy (20th) and Vincent Thomas (22nd), guided their team to a hard-fought 4-2 victory over Island All Star, for whom Leon Jarvis got a double in the 27th and 28th minute respectively.
Also in winners’ row were Alexander Village, who through goals from Shem Porter (7th and 18th), defeated inaugural Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ champions Broad Street 2-1, with Jimmy Gravesande scoring the losing team’s goal one minute after Porter registered his first.
The lone draw of the night occurred in the third game, in which West Front Road and Tiger Bay played to a 3-3 stalemate, with Kwame Pedro (15th), Stellon David (16th) and Michael Pedro (28th) found the back of the net for West Front Road.
Tiger Bay’s goals came off the boot of Solomon Austin who got a double in the 19th and 21st minutes and Deon Alfred who scored his lone goal in the 11th minute of play.
Action in the tournament, which was organised as a means of giving Team Guyana, formerly Back Circle, adequate practice as they prepare to contest the upcoming Guinness Caribbean Street Football Challenge, which kicks off on June 20 at the National Park, will continue tomorrow night at the Burnham Basketball Court from 20:00hrs.
Island All Star will kick off things against D’Urban Street, West Front Road will take on Broad Street, Team Guyana/Back Circle will face Albouystown and Tiger Bay will go head-to-head against Alexander Village.
At stake in the ongoing exhibition contest is $200 000 for the victorious team. The second-, third- and fourth-placed finishers will take home $100 000, $50 000 and $25 000 respectively and the remaining four teams, $15 000 each.
