A 32-YEAR-OLD woman, attending her friend’s funeral on Tuesday afternoon, was struck down by a car outside a city parlour, and had to be rushed to the Accident and Emergency Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital. The woman, Nadia Devine, a mother of two, of 92 West Ruimveldt, suffered three fractures to the right leg and abrasions to the body.
Relatives who witnessed the accident recalled that around 16:30hrs, they were just leaving the Sandy’s Funeral Home in the cortege and discovered that one of the wheels of the car they were travelling in was soft and they pulled over to fix it.
Devine stepped out of the car and was signalling oncoming motor vehicles that something was wrong and they needed to slow down. However, they claim, a motor car, driven by a woman, failed to heed the call, and ploughed into Devine.
The driver of the motor car which struck the woman down was detained by the police.
