POLICE Corporals Jermaine Laundry and Charles Britton were the two other witnesses to testify yesterday in the continuing Kaneville murder trial voir dire (a trial within a trial), wherein Dwight Da Silva stands indicted for the murder of Barbot Paul, committed on August 6, 2006. The voir dire is being conducted by Justice Roxanne George to determine the admissibility of a caution statement allegedly made by the accused, to which the defence is objecting on the ground that it was not obtained in accordance with the Judges’ Rules.
Attorney-at-Law George Thomas is defending Da Silva, while state prosecutors are Miss Retina Singh and Miss Konyo Sandiford.
Senior Prosecuting Counsel Miss Sandiford hopes to call her final witness today, when the hearing continues.
