Fined probationer must also do community service
NARVIN Ramdial, 31, who was previously bonded for a year having been convicted on missile throwing and disorderly behaviour charges, was fined $6,000 with the alternative of 20 days imprisonment on Thursday. It happened at New Amsterdam Court after he pleaded guilty, before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo, to possession of cannabis (marijuana).
Ramdial was also ordered to do six weeks community service, five days per week at Albion Police Station.
The court was told that, on May 3, the probationer, who lives at Williamsburg, also at Corentyne, in Berbice, was contacted by police in connection with a simple larceny allegation.
However, when a search was carried out on his person, ranks found a brown paper parcel containing leaves, seeds and stems of the prohibited plant in one of his pants pockets.
He was, subsequently, taken to Rose Hall Police Outpost, Corentyne.
