Stray cows leave farmer with $800,000 loss

CASH crops farmer, Carl Roberts, of Bounty Hall Village on Essequibo Coast, has reported that he suffered tremendous loss of his cultivation after several stray cows invaded the plot last Friday night. He said the animals destroyed some 800 bora plants that were about to bear.
Roberts explained that he is self-employed and depends on his garden, situated in his backyard, for his livelihood and contributes to the national ‘Grow more food’ drive.
He said he had put a lot of labour into the endeavour and already planted hundreds of sticks, for the bora vines to climb, when the stray animals invaded.
Roberts said he was able to catch four of the cattle and took them to Charity Police Station where they were impounded and a report made.
According to him, the police and a government appraiser inspected the destruction and estimated the damage at $800,000, for the purpose of the investigations.
Meanwhile, a motor car was badly damaged and passengers in it also hurt, on Tuesday night, after the vehicle hit a stray cow at Perth Public Road, also on Essequibo Coast.
