COPS Security and Universal DVD Club have joined a long list of sponsors for the Guyana’s Independence t20 Cup, a joint fundraising venture by the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) and the Berbice Chamber of Commerce and Development. Representatives of the sponsors have expressed confidence in the two charitable organisations involved in this tournament and as such they willingly granted the request for assistance.
COPS Security will cover the cost of meals for the entire day and provide security personnel while Universal DVD will sponsor the runner-up prize of $250 000 and cover all expenses for the Universal DVD Berbice Titans team.
Proceeds from this grand event, which is billed for the historic Albion Sports Complex on Saturday May 26 and promises to provide quality entertainment for all the patrons, will go towards the work of both organisations, selected orphanages, cricket clubs in Berbice and other charities.
It forms part of the celebrations to mark Guyana’s 46th Independence Anniversary, with players such as Devendra Bishoo, Veerasammy Permaul, Jonathan Foo, Andre Percival, Gajanand Singh, Paul Wintz, Rajiv Ivan, Sewnarine Chattergoon, Richard Ramdeen and Chris Barnwell expected to supply the spark at the venue.
The day’s action will comprise four exciting teams – Universal DVD Berbice Titans, Karibee Rice Tigers, Hits and Jams Superstars and New Line Cavaliers – battling for supremacy and over $1M in prizes will be up for grabs.
At a ceremony held recently, Miss Chandra Rampersaud of COPS Security and Mr Ashwin Carpen of Universal DVD presented their cheques to Mr Gyandat Murray, member of the organising committee.
Murray expressed gratitude to the sponsors and assured them that their moneys will be well spent.
He said that there is something for everyone and patrons will have an opportunity to win fabulous gate prizes including cell phones, mp3 players, lazy boy suites, cricket gear and hampers among other tokens from various companies, which will be distributed free of cost, while a well-stocked food and drinks bar and games for kids will provide added entertainment.
