IGNATIUS France, of Port Kaituma, North West District, was remanded to prison yesterday, on a murder charge. He appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton, charged with the unlawful killing of Mark Ashby, on May 11, at Canal Bank, Port Kaituma.
Police Sergeant, Tracymay Gittems, prosecuting, asked that the case be transferred to Matthews Ridge Court, also in North West District, for August 7.
Initial reports about the tragedy said the prisoner and another man had an argument over cigarettes and the victim was chopped with a cutlass on his neck.
The 21-year-old injured man was rushed to Port Kaituma Hospital where he died last Friday night, from wounds that severed the left carotid artery and the left jugular vein, as well.
