FIVE days after she had gone missing,  the decomposing remains of  79-year-old Elma Griffith-Thom, was found at  Lochaber, West Canje, Berbice about three miles from the main access road. The woman’s remains were clad with a pair of tights  and  long black boots. Her handbag which was found nearby contained bread, cheese, sugar, $80,  a bunch of keys and an umbrella.
The woman’s nephew, Andrew Griffith, a popular Rose Hall Town promoter had sought the media’s intervention in locating his aunt whom he last spoke with on Wednesday last.
According to him, she had no known health issues.
However, her daughter Cheryl Griffith, who was informed that her mother’s whereabouts were unknown, left her Trinidad and Tobago home to return to Guyana where she spearheaded a search aided with flyers for her missing  mother.
Cheryl is of the opinion that the elderly woman may have wandered off.
A Bermine Housing Scheme resident is alleged to have seen the woman, and reportedly told investigators that after seeing the woman, he had told cane harvesters who normally use that dam to pilot her to the main thoroughfare, but apparently they did not.
The body is awaiting a post mortem examination
Griffith-Thom previously worked at Central Police Station and the Guyana Prison Service.
