– appointee promises to put best foot forward
MANAGING Director of the B.K. Group of Companies, Mr. Brian Tiwarie, has been appointed the first Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of Spain to Guyana. And at a simple ceremony at her South Road office, Foreign Affairs Minister Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett on Friday handed over the Exequatur (the official document of approval) to Mr. Tiwarie, signalling the Guyana Government’s approval of his performing the duties here on behalf of the Kingdom of Spain. The Exequatur became effective on Friday last.
Tiwarie’s appointment now presents an opportunity for the existing relations between Guyana and Spain to be further strengthened, as well as the possibility to explore new forms of bilateral cooperation.
Formal diplomatic relations between Guyana and Spain were established on October 2, 1979, and these are conducted to a greater extent at the multilateral level in such organizations as the United Nations and the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) States, which included the European Union (EU) Group of countries, where Guyana and Spain are members.
Mr. Tiwarie told the Guyana Chronicle that he was humbled by the trust the Government of Spain had placed in him, and he expressed thanks to President Donald Ramotar and the Foreign Affairs Minister for accepting the request forwarded by Spain to have him serve on that country’s behalf here.
He was also high in praise for the support by Spain’s Ambassador in Trinidad, Mr Joaquin de Aristegui Laborde.
The Spanish envoy, who pledged to further enhance the healthy relationship currently enjoyed by the two countries, said he would never forget the humble background from whence he rose to prominence in the business sector, and promised to assist, in every way possible, his fellow businessmen who were seeking to upgrade their lives.
Mr. Tiwarie is a successful businessman who hails from the Essequibo Coast in Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam). He has prior experience in automotive and construction engineering, as well as in quarrying and mining.
He is a member of the Private Sector Commission (PSC) of Guyana and the Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association (GMSA) Limited.
