Proposed CAL cuts won’t hurt Guyanese travel

GUYANESE have expressed concern over the announcement by Trinidad and Tobago’s Transport Minister Devant Maharaj that several routes will be cut to save the ailing Caribbean Airlines and its sister carrier Air Jamaica. This latest development could have a possible impact on Guyana’s growing travel needs. However, an official at the airline’s Port of Spain office told the Chronicle that Guyana is one of the airline’s most lucrative routes, and as such, the airline would definitely ensure that Guyana is not affected by the route cuts in terms of outgoing transport loads.
He admitted, however, that some routes in which Guyanese and other regional travellers would have required connecting flights to reach certain ports as their final destination could possibly be affected.
The airline is expected to officially announce the routes that would be affected by the end of this month.
