I READ a letter by Mr. Charles Sohan in the Stabroek Newspaper dated May 8, 2012 titled, “Mayor is not the superman of the 21st century.” First, I never intended to suggest I was a superman, but rather, someone genuinely interested in getting things done for the people of Guyana, in particular, the citizens in the city including the disadvantaged.
I believe Mr. Sohan’s heart is in the right place and I have no quarrel with him.
He is among the technicians for which I have a high regard and so consider him technically competent, committed to Guyana and thus earned my respect for him; in other words, a patriot.
In those circumstances, I invite him to meet with me at an agreed time and place, so I can benefit from his knowledge and experience.
It will also afford me the opportunity to help him appreciate the monumental task to fix Georgetown right, and consistent with the philosophy of local governance, the efforts I have made overtime to see the cooperation of the state bureaucracy. A cooperation predicated on a genuine partnership as distinct from a minion/master relationship, all for the benefit of Georgetown and its citizens.
My office number is: 225-1159, and I thank him for the courage and perspicacity of his letter.
Never intended to suggest I was a ‘superman’
