Ogle murder trial goes on with one accused

MURDER accused Hemraj Boodwah  who used to be the number three accused in the same  case until yesterday,  is the lone accused, following  two guilty pleas by his two  other  colleagues. Following the conclusion of the voir dire  yesterday,  the  substantive  trial  began   with the jury listening to evidence from witnesses.
Unlike the voir die, at which Renita Singh  prosecuted, Konyo Sandiford  delivered the open address to the jury yesterday.
Giving a ‘run-down’ of the facts as it affected the accused,  the  prosecutor  told the jury that the accused stands indicted  for the murder of Seerajie Singh called ‘Lalita’.
She said that evidence will be called to show that Lalita was a  40-year-old female taxi driver  who carried  on a taxi service at Success, East Coast Demerara.
According  to her,  on  10th  February 2006, Lalita was summoned  to make a  pick-up at a Chinese  restaurant at Success.
That  very evening  Lalita’s  body was found  in a  pool  of blood at the Success Air Strip.
Police  took the body to the Georgetown  Hospital where she died  four hours later.
A post mortem examination by Dr. Nehaul Singh disclosed that the  woman  was  shot  through the mouth and she died  from  gunshot injury.
The trial is continuing.
