MURDER accused Hemraj Boodwah who used to be the number three accused in the same case until yesterday, is the lone accused, following two guilty pleas by his two other colleagues. Following the conclusion of the voir dire yesterday, the substantive trial began with the jury listening to evidence from witnesses.
Unlike the voir die, at which Renita Singh prosecuted, Konyo Sandiford delivered the open address to the jury yesterday.
Giving a ‘run-down’ of the facts as it affected the accused, the prosecutor told the jury that the accused stands indicted for the murder of Seerajie Singh called ‘Lalita’.
She said that evidence will be called to show that Lalita was a 40-year-old female taxi driver who carried on a taxi service at Success, East Coast Demerara.
According to her, on 10th February 2006, Lalita was summoned to make a pick-up at a Chinese restaurant at Success.
That very evening Lalita’s body was found in a pool of blood at the Success Air Strip.
Police took the body to the Georgetown Hospital where she died four hours later.
A post mortem examination by Dr. Nehaul Singh disclosed that the woman was shot through the mouth and she died from gunshot injury.
The trial is continuing.
