A SUPERVISOR at Survival Supermarket, on Vlissengen Road, appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton yesterday, charged with unlawfully assaulting another staff member. Sebastian Chunoo, of Lot 241 Munipur Street, Prashad Nagar, also in Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said the assault on Nishanna Duff took place on May 8.
Prosecuting Police Sergeant Tracymay Gittens had no objection to bail but asked that a condition be attached to the grant since both persons involved in the incident are employees of the same business.
The defendant told the Court that the virtual complainant accused him of being a racist and abused him but no charge was laid against her.
The magistrate advised Chunoo to check with the Police about charging Duff but suggested she be transferred to another location to avoid any more problems.
Survival has another establishment on Sheriff Street, in the city, too.
Meanwhile, after both parties agreed to keep the peace, the defendant was ordered to lodge $15,000 surety until May 21.
