TWO Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara brothers, Andrew David and Hermon David, were brought before the Vigilance Magistrate’s court to answer to related criminal charges after they both levelled accusations of theft against the other. According to police, on May Day last, at Golden Grove, Andrew David left his apartment for Georgetown, and upon his return, he noticed that his penknife and scissors were missing.
Further checks around the apartment suggested that his belongings were ransacked, which led him to suspect that his older brother Hermon may have been the culprit, since he was the only one that has access to the place.
The two later had a confrontation over the missing articles, when Andrew confronted his brother with a piece of iron, while his brother allegedly brandished a cutlass he had stashed under his bed.
However, in his defence, Hermon claimed that his brother Andrew has a way of habitually forgetting where he puts his things, and often lays the blame of theft at his feet.
In response, the 51-year-old Andrew told the court that his brother is a habitual stealer and had even tried to steal his false teeth.
Angered by this claim, Hermon immediately took out his dentures in open court and showed them to Magistrate Nyasha Williams-Hatmin.
Hermon added that his brother would usually put away his “false teeth” and forget where he had put them.
The man then pleaded with the Magistrate to warn his younger brother to show him some respect and desist from accusing him of stealing his things, whenever he inadvertently misplaces them.
In the end, both parties pleaded not guilty to the assault charge, and were eventually released on $5,000 bail each.
They are expected to return to court on June 26.
