Police report more armed robberies, less murders
THE Police reported, yesterday, that armed robberies have increased by 19 percent.
Unto April 2012, there were 337 such reports, as compared to 284 for the same period in 2011.
The statistics indicate an increase of 10 percent in the number involving the use of firearms and 36 percent with the perpetrators using other weapons.
An overall decrease of 10 percent in serious crimes was recorded at the end of April, this year, in comparison to last year. The total number by April 30, 2012 was 1,268, less than the 1,404 at the end of April 2011.
The Police said some of the offences monitored in that category also included murder, robbery with violence, larceny from the person, break and enter and larceny, burglary, rape and kidnapping.
The report said there continues to be a lessening in the number of murders during this year. A total of 44 occurred by the end of April 2011 while there were 36 in the comparative period for 2012, a difference of 18 percent.
Of the 36, sixteen were of the disorderly type, six domestic related and two execution style, while the other 12 are, so far, in an unknown category.
