THE Progressive Youth Organisation (PYO), the youth arm of the governing People’s Progressive Party (PPP) has indicated that it is continuing its outreach work in several communities across Guyana. On Sunday April 29, 2012, youths from the Grove/Diamond PYO group repainted the pedestrian crossing along the East Bank Public Road, an area which is used by children attending the Grove Primary School among other road users.
The PYO, in a statement, said similar efforts are planned over the coming weeks for other critical areas in the two communities used by pedestrians in an effort to improve road safety in the heavily trafficked area.
Other self-help activities included the collaborative effort between the PPP and PYO groups in the area to assist in cleaning the parapets in the Diamond/Grove Housing Scheme which commenced on Sunday April 22, 2012 and is an ongoing project.
The Grove/Diamond PYO group also recently collaborated with members of the Eccles New Housing Scheme, EBD to host a day of sports at the Community Centre Ground in an effort to encourage more youths to get involved in sport to lead healthier lifestyles.
These efforts by the PYO are set to continue in a number of other communities countrywide.
