Dazell Scheme shop owners reprimanded for offending neighbour with loud music

PROPRIETOR and Proprietress Orin and Vivian Josiah were both issued a strong warning by Cove and John Magistrate Nyasha Williams-Hatmin when they appeared before her charged with playing loud and continuous music at their shop at Dazell Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara. The court was told that on Monday, 23rd April, virtual complainant Joycelyn Wilson, who lives on the opposite side of the street, becoming distressed when the shop owners continued to play music to her discomfort, went over to them to voice her concerns, but was ignored by the two accused.
As a result, she summoned the police, who subsequently removed the offending equipment and charged the shop owners for the offence.
The magistrate advised the defendants that in future they were to play music for their hearing alone, and not to offend anyone.
Taking heed to the magistrate’s words, the husband and wife apologized to the complainant and promised there would be no recurrence of any such act on their part.
