Ogle murder case…

Prosecution closes in first voir dire
THE prosecution closed yesterday in the voir dire (trial within a trial)which started the Ogle murder case at the Demerara Assizes.
Consequently, leading defence counsel, Compton Richardson made a no-case submission to Justice Roxanne George, who reserved her ruling.
The smaller trial is to determine whether statements attributed to two of the three men indicted for the unlawful killing of a woman were given voluntarily.
The judge is expected to also test the admissibility of another attestation before the main trial gets underway.
The indictment alleges that Annandram Dhar Amrag, called ‘Alvin Duck Beek’; Naresh Boodhoo, nicknamed ‘Allu’ or ‘Alloo’, and ‘Taipaul’; and Hemraj Boodwah, alias ‘Tilly’, murdered  Seeragie, known as ‘Prowell Seerajie’ or ‘Lalita’, on February 11, 2006.
Before the main trial began, the defence and prosecution agreed that the smaller trials should take place in the absence of the jury.
Richardson is representing Amrag, while Mr. Peter Hugh is appearing for Boodhoo and Boodwah.
The case for the prosecution is being conducted by state counsel Renita Singh and Konyo Sandiford.
