– Project also aimed at reducing youth crime, violence in Guyana
THE Private Sector Commission (PSC) met yesterday with representatives of Real Development Solutions, a consultancy firm which is conducting a labour market assessment for the Skills and Knowledge for Youth Employment project (SKYE), a USAID initiative to reduce youth crime and violence in Guyana through strengthening economic participation and civic engagement. The project is aiming to equip 800 at-risk youths in Regions 4, 6, 9 and 10 with market-driven skills and to improve their opportunities to enter the work-force. The project is being executed through the Educational Development Centre (EDC), a US-based global education and youth development institution.
The Private Sector Commission, in a statement yesterday, said it endorses this initiative and feels that it could make a real difference to both our youth and the communities in which they reside.
The Commission said it would like to urge all selected businesses to lend their support to the effort to gather data on the labour needs of their organisations so that a clear picture of the skills required can emerge and aid the training aspect of the project.
