Bandits maul snackette handyman who had no money to offer them

LAWRENCE KENNEDY, 41, handyman at the popular ‘Rabbie’s Snackette and Variety Store’ located opposite the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) at Thomas and New Market Streets, North Cummingsburg, Georgetown, remained in critical condition at the GPHC late yesterday after being violently attacked by bandits outside the snackette in the wee hours of Monday morning. Kennedy appeared delirious after the ordeal. He had been beaten on the head, was severely chopped about the hands and back, and had suffered a fractured left arm as well.
Recounting his misfortune, Kennedy said that at around 2:30 hrs, he was outside the snackette — which was already closed and tightly secured — when a motor car drove up and some men disembarked. The men, some of whom were armed with long knives, approached him in a menacing way, demanding money. Terrified, he told them that he had none, and this appeared to have incurred their wrath.
Kennedy said that on getting that kind of response, they drew the knives and started chopping him about the body. Even as he was crying out in pain and calling for help, neighbours appeared not to have heard.
After severely beating and leaving him bleeding on the ground, the men boarded their vehicle and drove away.
But in the midst of his agony, he recalled a woman coming from the hospital and encountering him still bleeding on the ground, who ran and got help that took him to the GPHC, where he was admitted and taken to theatre for surgery.
