COME Sunday May 20, the Kennard Memorial Turf Club (KMTC), located at Bush Lot Corentyne, will be buzzing with activity when the club hosts its annual Pre-Independence horse race meeting. Seven races are carded for the day, with the feature event being the D and Lower classified horses which covers a distance of one mile and has a first prize of $500 000, with the second-, third- and fourth-placed horses receiving $250 000, $125 000 and $100 000 respectively.
Entrance fee per horse is $3 000 and horse owners and trainers are asked to pay at the time of entering their charges for a specific race. Failure to do so will result in the horse’s name not printed on the official programme for the day’s event.
As is customary, races will be run under the rules and regulations of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority (GHRA), where five horses must start the race for the third place prize to be paid and a further two horses must face the starter for a fourth place prize to be paid.

Meanwhile, the club is reminding horse racing fans and enthusiasts that the programme for the year following this meeting will see races held on May 20, August 12, October 14 and the big Boxing Day meeting on December 26.
