YOUTH Basketball Guyana (YBG) on Thursday afternoon launched its Berbice edition of the countrywide basketball schools’ tournament at the GUYSUCO Training Centre, Port Mourant basketball court. At the launching in the presence of sponsors, tournament coordinator, teachers and students, media and other basketball officials, Youth Basketball Guyana co-chairman Rayad Boyce charged the participants, teachers and officials in the presence of sponsor Beharry Group of Companies to grasp all the possible opportunities in education and basketball at present.
He noted that the champion school in the areas will travel to the City for the national finals and will see some of their players going on to represent Guyana and more so some being awarded scholarships.
Hashim Alli, Merchandising and Promotion Manager of Beharry Group of Companies, indicated that his company is pleased to be associated with Youth Basketball Guyana and more so with basketball in Berbice as the area is one of the company’s business strong areas under the Pasta brand of products and with this he welcomed the launching of the tournament.
He urged all schools participating to play at the highest level. He hopes to see one of the schools present at the national finals.
Area coordinator Vibert Garrett expressed thanks to the sponsors and coordinators of the YBG Schools’ tournament as he sees it as a major developmental tool for the development of the sport in the area and Guyana as a whole.
The tournament will see over ten schools in the area participating at three venues.
