Dams in Cozier being graded, levelled
CHAIRMAN of Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam), Mr. Parmanand Persaud has reported that the Drainage and Irrigation (D&I) Department is currently grading and levelling access dams in the Cozier Agriculture Scheme with a D6 bulldozer and other machines. He said the dams are in good condition due to the current dry weather and farmers are using them to transport their produce from the fertile area to factories and markets.
Persaud also reported that the rehabilitated pump at Cozier will be on standby with adequate amount of fuel, in the event of extreme heavy rainfall, to drain excess water into the Pomeroon River.
Government, recently, under the previous chairmanship of Mr. Alli Baksh, spent millions of dollars to rehabilitate the pump, sluice and desilted some two miles of the channel that was overgrown with bushes, having been abandoned by the previous Administration.
