– Clement hits hat trick
THANKS to Floyd ‘Mayweather’ Major’s helmet trick, Trainline Warriors defeated Attackers 4-1 and sealed their place in the last 16 which kicks off at the Amelia’s Ward/Wisroc car park this Saturday, in this year’s Banks DIH/Linden Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Futsal football competition. Competing at the same venue last Saturday night, Major sent the fair size vocal and appreciative crowd into a frenzy, when he found the back of the net in the 6th, 7th , 11th and 12th minute respectively, to push his team ahead, before Marlon Cox pulled one back for Attackers in the 17th minute.
Also enduring a magnificent night were Leon Clement who struck a hat trick for Pepper Skull along with Jonathan Fredericks, Darrel George and Atheba Edmondson who both scored doubles for Minibus, Retrieve Unknowns and Coomacka respectively.
In the first matchup of the night’s action, the fourth in this year’s tournament, which has an attractive cash prize of $500,000 for the winner, Minibus defeated $100 Car Park 2-1, with Fredericks finding the back of the net in the 6th and 19th minute of the contest before Deon Grandison pulled one back for his team seconds before the full time whistle sounded.
Classic Six and wash Boyz played to a nil all stalemate, as did Amelia’s Ward Russians and South Stars later in the night, before Constab Warriors who wore a black ribbon to the memory of their late team mate Joseph Mc Kenzie, went under to Coomacka.
The victorious Coomacka unit played as a team, using deft touches to move the ball around their opponents and at times even employed the triangle play to get into the opposition’s third, hitting the posts of the mini-goal three times in the dying seconds of the first half which was played for 10 minutes.
One minute after the resumption of play, Edmondson found the back of the net and followed it up with his second goal seven minutes later, much to the delight of the crowd on hand, whose appetite for entertaining and pulsating football was whetted by Major’s feat in the following game, after Coomacka’s 2-0 win.
Following a close five minutes, in which both teams battled back and forth for the initiative, the dreadlocked Major rocked the back of the nets for his first two goals which were scored one minute apart to give his team a 2-0 lead at lemon time.
Within the first minute of play in the second half, he completed his hat trick and seven minutes later, the first helmet trick of this year’s tournament after receiving a wonderful pass from his teammate, three feet past the half way line, following which he turned and patted the ball into the open goal.
Following the 20 minutes ‘Guinness Cool down Yourself’ break, Clement struck his hat trick in the 5th, 14th and 17th minute of play after Rawlin Adams opened the scoring in the 4th minute for Pepper Skull who proved to be hot for High Stars, defeating them 4-1 with Joseph Liquorish scoring the lone goal for his side in the 13th minute.
Charles Henry (7th) and Derrol Dainty (16th) found the back of the net for Half Mile/One Mile as they defeated Wisroc 2-1 with Orandy Wills reducing the deficit for the losers, while Sheriff Squad and Retrieve Unknowns played to a 2-2 draw, with George hitting a double for the latter in the 3rd and 7th minute and Colwyn Davis (1st) and Kwesi Johnson (2nd) doing so for the losing team.
