Mackeson Masters Football Tournament final four decided

… Exciting football semi-final action expected this evening
THE 2012 edition of the Georgetown Masters Football Association (GMFA) Mackeson Masters knockout Football tournament will see exciting semi-final action this evening at the GFC ground from 17:00hrs.
The four clubs will play to determine their final destination in the tournament. GFC, Brazimex, Santos and Hearts of Oaks of Berbice will all do battle, while the Plate playoff will commence with the other four clubs, Conquerors, Rastafari Patriots, East Coast and Top Klass of Linden.
At the quarter-finals, GFC defeated Beacon 2-1 with goals in the 18th & 19th minutes from Shawn Daniels while national coach Wayne Dover replied in the 39th minute for Beacon.
The second match saw Thomas United get the better of Pele 4-1 with goals from Eon Williams in the 10th & 40th minutes, Paul D’Andrade 55th minute and Lindon Bacchus in the 57th minute. Gary Mickle’s 54th minute goal contributed to Pele’s score sheet.
The third matchup saw Brazimex and Top Klass play interesting football to qualify, with Brazimex emerging successful in winning 2-0 with goals from Lawrence December in the 17th minute, and Mark Mortimer 30th minute.
The final qualifier saw Santos defeat the Berbice Hearts of Oaks 2-0. Chris Giles’ 26th minute goal from a free kick passed the wall to beat former national goalkeeper Phillip Carrington. The second goal came off a defence error in the 50th minute.
In Thursday night’s matches to decide the final four, GFC won 3-1 over Houston Stars. Shawn Daniels’ 7th & 10th minute goals contributed to the Bourda side with assistance from David Britton in the 40th minute. Carlyle Harry scored in the 8th minute for the Stars.
Brazimes were held to a 2-2 score line with Beacon and penalty decided the winner in Brazimex’ favour 3-2.
Pele held Santos to a 0-0 score line where penalties decided in favour of Santos 4-2.
The final match between Thomas United and Hearts of Oaks ended in a Berbice victory from Brian Simpson in the 34th minute.
In the two Plate matches this evening Conquerors come up against East Coast and the Rastafari Patriots meet Top Klass of Linden.
Semi-finals will comprise GFC doing battle with Brazimex and Santos facing the Berbice side Hearts of Oaks.
Peter Lashley, David Britton, Shawn Daniels and Kelvin Leander will spearhead the GFC lineup while Sheldon Bobb’s side will comprise former national goalkeeper Chris George, Sham Johnny, Lawrence December, Mark Mortimer, John Luke and Anderson Batista.
Santos’ star-studded lineup will have former national all-rounder Terence Archer, Chris Duggan, Junior Walker, Chris Giles, Trevor Burnett and Frank ‘English’ Parris while the Berbicians will rely on former national goalkeeper Phillip Carrington, Adrian Forde, Sherwin Forde, Monty Fordyce, Brian Simpson, Kenrick Bowry and Terrence Lewis.
