AFTER decades of slumber, Moses Nagamootoo has had an awakening, criticizing his former comrades in the PPP for all manner of misdeeds and character flaws. It is funny/peculiar what thwarted ambition can do one’s psychological make-up, now Moses is swimming with the sharks who once tried to eat him, as well as consume the entire Guyanese people. His epiphany, after he was repeatedly denied the presidency in successive PPP/C-led governments, caused him to seek a “high place” under the heels of the neo-nazis who once destroyed this nation in every way imaginable, not least the morale of the Guyanese people.
Despite knowing that the PPP/C inherited a country that was rated even below Haiti on international developmental graphs, where the middle-class, which largely comprised the public servants, were literally living way below the poverty line, with an IMF-prescribed wage-freeze under the Draconian Hoyte-led Economic Recovery Programme (ERP), which was aptly termed ‘Empty Rice Pots’, and a disoriented, hopeless Guyanese people, Moses is yet critical of the ability of the current government to make Guyana into a first-world country in the relatively short time-span of two decades; and he is utterly convinced that he is God’s chosen one who can achieve this miracle, even as global economies are crumbling.
QUOTE: For a Moses Nagamootoo to speak of this Government going “with a begging bowl” is a prime indicator of his crass, dishonest, and opportunistic pursuit of vainglorious popularity, which he had initially achieved by riding on the backs of the iconic Jagans and the PPP – a popularity which he shamelessly used to fool Jagan-lovers that the party that Dr. Cheddi Jagan founded no longer held true to his ideals, only he did: yeah, right!
For a Moses Nagamootoo to speak of this Government going “with a begging bowl” is a prime indicator of his crass, dishonest, and opportunistic pursuit of vainglorious popularity, which he had initially achieved by riding on the backs of the iconic Jagans and the PPP – a popularity which he shamelessly used to fool Jagan-lovers that the party that Dr. Cheddi Jagan founded no longer held true to his ideals, only he did: yeah, right!
It was Dr. Cheddi Jagan who ignored the IMF diktat, even while his fledging government was absolutely vulnerable, and unfroze public servants wages, while restoring bargaining power to the unions, the leaders of which (except GAWU) had become dumb: and they repaid him by unrelentingly trying to stymie his government’s development programmes by a perennial go-slow and continuous strikes under the most inconsequential pretext.
QUOTE: And Carl Greenidge; my god, the nerve of that man, who is displaying his utter shamelessness for the world, and trying to fool those who either want to be fooled or are unaware of the primary role that he played in the destruction of Guyana pre-1992.
And it was Dr. Cheddi Jagan who first recognized that the albatross of the PNC-incurred national debt was drowning this nation and pursued the debt-relief initiatives, which he entrusted to the very capable and trusted young Bharrat Jagdeo; and today the accrual benefits are being enjoyed by those who once destroyed this country and yet are continuously calling this innovative and unique developmental feature, which was subsequently adopted by other developing countries, as ‘beggary’, as they are calling the LCDS.
But profiting from our rainforests so that the world can breathe is barter, not beggary, which a brilliant Bharrat Jagdeo was able to formulate into the LCDS, which could have generated enough funds to send this country’s growth indices spiraling to reach the skies, but which the party to which Nagamootoo now belongs – the AFC, and their bed-partners, the PNC/APNU, have unpatriotically impeded with their anti-national, anti-Guyanese lobbies, because their greed for power and their envy of Bharrat Jagdeo and Donald Ramotar supersede any consideration of the benefits that could make life so much better for poor Guyanese, especially from the rural areas, who need costly input into climate change mitigation and adaptation programmes so that their lives could be enriched and enhanced. But the opposition collective is noted for their double-speak out of both sides of their mouth.
Moses Nagamootoo is criticizing the government’s provision of potable water, disregarding the massive input today from none of yesteryears, when children were kept from schools to trek for miles in search of the priceless commodity during PNC rule, and it was a common sight along the highways and byways of the country to see the babies and mothers pulling hand-drawn carts with buckets and drums of water.
QUOTE: Moses has had an epiphany and Greenidge has been struck by a revelation, which has partnered them in an adulterous liaison in a bed strewn with the decayed palm fronds of the dead PNC’s political detritus.
Regarding Moses’ criticisms of the rare instances of untreated water in the country, which is being inexorably rectified as the Government arranges funds, during the commissioning ceremony where Minister of Housing and Water, Hon. Irfaan Ali, had inaugurated a $450 million water treatment plant at Lima on the Essequibo coast in Region Two, World Bank representative, Mr. Paul Dowlin, had remarked that Guyana had reached the MDG of providing potable water to citizens, even in the more remote regions, which amounted to in excess of 90% of the country’s needs, which supersedes potable water provision in most global developmental programmes.
So contrary to what Moses and his cohorts are trying to portray, Guyana’s potable water problems are not insurmountable anymore, and are continuously being addressed by the Government.
His contention that sugar workers are being neglected by the government has no basis in fact, except in isolated incidents when management has fouled up, because it is the PPP/C administration that has tried unrelentingly to keep the sugar industry viable, despite the odd hiccup here and there; and climate change depredations, and safeguard the livelihoods of those approximately 100,000 persons dependent for their daily sustenance – either directly or indirectly on sugar, when his bedmates in the PNC/APNU has stated unequivocally that they plan to privatise the sugar industry when (lol) they accede to government.
Yet both times the government infused funds to sustain the industry Ramjattan and now Nagamootoo, along with the rest of the opposition cabal, are screaming “bail out”, as they are doing also in the instance where government is subsidizing GPL to prevent that company from increasing its tariffs, which will further burden the consumer.
They even criticize the new Skeldon factory, which is, to date, the single largest investment by this government in this country; and the sugar workers are falling in Nagamootoo and the opposition cabal’s trap and behaving just like the public servants, who never show appreciation for anything the PPP does to take them out of the jaws of poverty into which the PNC had plunged them.
Yet the opposition never described as “bailout” all the massive injections of funds the government has infused into the bauxite industry; nor the massive annual subsidies – at the expense of taxpayers, that ensure that Lindeners, including millionaires, pay a minute fraction of their electricity consumption; nor do they protest the many outlays of capital, again at taxpayers’ expense, when the PNC-owned city council, led by PNC member Hamilton Green, create havoc in the city with their profligacy and mismanagement.
But the PPP/C government provides sustenance to every Guyanese community as the needs surface, albeit having to prioritize programmes because of constrained funds.
Their unrealistic demands on the government for increased wages and salaries, pensions, reduction of VAT – when they know that most consumer items that the average Guyanese family use are zero-rated, would run this country bankrupt once more and destroy the gains that the government has so painfully made over the past two decades, when the country is now poised to achieve great things that will ultimately give the nation all that it aspires to, when every Guyanese will live, if not rich, extremely comfortable lives.
Anyone with good sense would recognize the leadership (in) capabilities and the financial mismanagement of the PNC/APNU charlatans, because the PNC-run city council is a microcosm of the state of the country under their rule, which will return this country to the dark ages if they ever again achieve the highest administrative office in the land.
Moses Nagamootoo should remember what deserting the protective arms of the PPP and embracing the PNC did to Vincent Teekah.
And Carl Greenidge; my god, the nerve of that man, who is displaying his utter shamelessness for the world, and trying to fool those who either want to be fooled or are unaware of the primary role that he played in the destruction of Guyana pre-1992.
Imagine Greenidge lambasting the government for the state of the city, when the PNC has always had control of the city and its finances; and even when the government has constantly infused funds into the upkeep of the city and its environs.
Minister Irfaan Ali dealt adequately with Greenidge, who had put his tails between his legs and cowardly ran out of the National Assembly even before Irfaan Ali, who is young enough to be Greenidge’s grandson, began his counter-attack.
He ran away from Irfaan like he ran away from Finance Minister, Ashni Singh’s invitation to discuss the Budget, recognizing that the hot air that he spews so glibly is no match for the invigorating breath of fresh air on which is transported the truth, to which he is an absolute stranger.
It was Ashni Singh’s remit to present a national budget, and he did so with the input of all major stakeholders in the nation; and while the government has invited the political opposition to make an input, that they chose not to because of capability challenges in no way affected the magnitude of fiscal considerations that have taken cognizance of the needs of every community in Guyana.
Moses has had an epiphany and Greenidge has been struck by a revelation, which has partnered them in an adulterous liaison in a bed strewn with the decayed palm fronds of the dead PNC’s political detritus.
