FIRST Lady, Deolatchmee Ramotar spent most of her Holy Thursday and part of Good Friday distributing kites to several youths in various communities, who are looking forward to an Easter holiday to remember. Their smiling faces were enough to say how thankful they were to the First Lady for extending the gesture.
The distribution exercise began at Sophia on Friday, followed by West Ruimveldt and ending at Shirley Field Ridley Square.
Hundreds of less fortunate youths, some accompanied by their parents, who anxiously awaited the arrival of the First Lady, had happy expressions on their faces with the kites they received. The First Lady visited several areas on the East Coast the previous day, where she handed out kites to the children who had eagerly gathered at several locations.
Kite flying is the highlight of Easter which, for the Christian religion symbolises the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
During the Easter holiday, kites of all shapes and sizes dot the skies as many flock to the seawall, Number 63 Beach in Region 6 and several other popular kite flying locations.(GINA)
