A FORMER clerk at Caricom Auto Sales (CAS) appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamlton yesterday, charged on two counts of embezzlement. Ramwattie Ramlochan, 35, of Newtown, Enmore, faced indictable charges, one of which said, between August 9, 2011 and February 16, 2012, at Lusignan, also on the East Coast of Demerara, being a clerk or servant of (CAS), she fraudulently embezzled $1M she took into her possession for her employer.
The other charge said, on March 3, 2012, at Sheriff Street, Georgetown, being a clerk or servant of (CAS), she fraudulently embezzled $1.1M, she took possession of for her employer.
Police Sergeant, Gordon Mansfield, prosecuting, had no objection to bail but requested that the accused lodge her passport and report to the police every week.
The application was granted and the accused was ordered to lodge $300,000 security on both charges and surrender her passport while reporting, every Friday, to the Brickdam Police Station until May 15.
Earlier, defence counsel, Hukumchand said the woman is not a flight risk and will vigorously defend her name.
The lawyer said the police did not find anything on her because all the receipts were legitimately issued by (CAS) but the owner of the business was the driving force behind the police to get her charged.
