MEMBERS of Devonshire Castle Cooperative Land Society on Essequibo Coast have elected an Interim Management Committee (IMC) to manage their affairs. According to newly elected Secretary, Mr. Pooran Persaud, the previous executive committee was dissolved after the former Chairman, Mr. Lackhan Lall and Secretary, Mr. Jeewan Lall failed to respond to two letters sent by an attorney-at-law concerning the society’s business.
Persaud said the election of the IMC was by the general membership of the society.
Chairman of the IMC is Mr. Paul Wilson; Treasurer, Mr. Param Lall Goberdan and six committee members, Mr. Seeram, Mr. Chanderpaul, Mr Ramdial Shivlall, Mr. Kaliba Persaud, Mr. Cecil and Mr Gansham Bisram.
Secretary Persaud said the IMC is now instituting legal proceedings so as to obtain a copy of the Society’s records and files pertaining to income and expenditure, receipt books, transport, purchase and sales agreements of its lands and income statements of burial fees.
He said copies of the IMC were sent to Minister of Labour, Chief Co-ops Officer, Chairman of Region 2 (Pomeroon/Supenaam), Mr. Parmanand Persaud, Mayor of Anna Regina and Regional Executive Officer, Mr. Sunil Singh.
