A FOURTEEN-YEAR-OLD student from the Tapacuma Amerindian community, located some 15 miles from Anna Regina in the hinterland, was  raped by a 26-year-old man last Saturday. It is reported that the girl had been sent on an errand by her parents and was walking back home along a deserted trail, late the afternoon, when her cousin, who was riding a motorcycle, offered her a ride home.
Reports said the child trusted her cousin and accepted the offer but he diverted to another path in the interior and took her to lonely spot where he ravished her.
He was returning with the terrified child on the motorbike when he met the girl’s mother who was searching for her daughter. The man quickly dropped off the child and escaped, leaving the victim to relate what had transpired.
She was immediately taken to Anna Regina Police Station and the hospital and police are currently searching for the man, who is said in hiding.
