WEST Indies explosive opener Chris Gayle arrived in Bangalore yesterday to play for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the fifth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Gayle has been the darling of Bangalore crowds since the last IPL. Known for his big hitting, the tall West Indian is once again in the Garden City to display his six-hitting prowess. 2011 was Gayle’s RCB debut and what a way it was, to start off with …! RCB started their preparations on Tuesday evening at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Coach Ray Jennings spoke about their batting mainstay. Jennings said Gayle is currently the number one batsman in the world with his exceptional batting skills.
“I think he realises that the IPL helped him, certainly helped him turn his cricket around. He was not picked in the auction but he got picked and now we know that he is the number one in the world,” Jennings said.
Jennings said that Gayle is adored by the Indian public and the West Indian knows the importance of playing for RCB.
“And as a human being, the Indian public has started to adore him. He realises the importance of playing for RCB and for the next two months, his focus will be here,” he added.
