Chairman leading consultations throughout Region 5

RECENTLY elected councillors and senior officials of the Regional   Administration have embarked on a series of consultations in communities throughout Region 5 (Mahaica/Berbice). Regional Chairman B. Bisnauth told the Guyana Chronicle that the meetings began early last week and will be held in all the communities, riverine areas included.
“Apart from the coastal communities, we intend to visit as far up the Mahaicony as Moraikobai, which is about 90 miles away from the coastland,” he said.
The team has been divided into two groups and the visits and consultations are continuing on a daily basis through April 23, by which time all the targeted areas will have been covered, Bisnauth said.
He said the purpose of the exercise is for the Administration to learn, first hand, of the issues affecting residents and get a feel for priorities and projects which matter most to the people on the ground.
The groups comprise Bisnauth, Regional Vice-Chairman Riyon Peters, Regional Executive Officer (REO) Ashford Ambikar; Deputy Regional Executive Officer, Govind Singh; Regional Engineer, Mark Gupta and senior staffers of the Education Department.
At Moraikobai, the functionaries will also make arrangements for the holding of elections for a toshao and others to lead that Amerindian community.
