Home Affairs Minister unveils monument to CPGs

MINISTER of Home Affairs, Clement Rohee, yesterday unveiled a monument in the compound of the La Grange Police Station, West Bank Demerara, to mark the 36th anniversary of Community Policing Groups (CPGs) in Guyana. He told those gathered for the ceremony that the future of Community Policing is secure, since it is growing and has made a positive impact on communities.
He recalled that 36 years ago, the then Commissioner of Police, Henry Fraser, established the first CPG at the La Grange station and it is fitting that the monument be unveiled there, honouring all the men and women who served and those who continue to serve in the fight against crime and in the maintenance of law and order in the country.
He also called on the CPGs to re-dedicate themselves to the call of service in fostering good relations with the police and the communities they serve.

He noted that the CPG is a body outside of the Force and is committed to working in the communities.
Acting Commissioner of Police, Leroy Brumell, in brief remarks, lauded the efforts of the minister in promoting CPGs in Guyana and noted that indeed the CPG has come a long way and is growing.
He urged CPG members to continue to be role models in their communities and to foster good relations with the police and communities as they come together to fight crime and maintain peace, law and order.
Also making remarks was Commander of ‘D’ Division, Senior Superintendent, Christopher Griffith, who underscored the importance of CPGs, as they continue to be the “eyes and ears” of the police in their respective communities.
Also making remarks was Chairman of ‘D’ Division, Omesh Satyanand, and Treasurer, Rajendra Sahadar.
