Tiger Bay and West Ruimveldt record wins
TIGER Bay and West Ruimveldt are through to the next round of the 24-team Banks Digicel Mayor’s Cup Inter-ward knockout football tournament which opened on Friday evening at the GFC ground. The opening game saw Tiger Bay crush Uitvlugt 3-0 in an exciting first-half match-up but broke down in the second half through consistent attacking play from the Water Street area lads.
Okeny Fraser opened the scoring sheet in the 59th minute after a loose ball from a Uitvlugt defender was converted to put his team in the lead. Rensford Coleridge minutes later dribbled two midfielders and a defender and got his shot on to the run past the Uitvlugt goalkeeper to send his team 2-0 up in the 66th minute. Calvin Shepherd concluded the scoring sheet at 3-0 in the 69th minute to finish off Uitvlugt.
In the supporting game West Ruimveldt beat the inexperienced Stewartville lineup 2-1.
Nedd Fraser took command of the West side team in the 28th minute to convert after squandering a few chances and was followed by Eusi Phillips in the 49th minute for a 2-0 lead. In the latter stages of the game, Stewartville responded and got a goal to enhance their hopes through Owen McGarrell. At the end of regular time the scoresheet remained in West Ruimveldt’s favour.
The tournament continues today with a triple-header from 16:00hrs. In the first match Alberttown meet South Sophia, in the second match at 18:00hrs, Charlestown take on Mocha and the last game will feature West Ruimveldt Estate against Grove.
