JOEL Ali and Susankar Jeet (no addresses given) have been charged following police investigations into the recent $4M larceny scam. The duo appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday, facing the indictable charge that said, on March 19, they stole $4M belonging to Utra Nauth of H. Nauth and Sons Constructing Company.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said Ali, who was employed by the virtual complainant, collected the money to deposit at Citizens Bank and, on his way, he conspired with Jeet to steal the cash.
At the request of the prosecutor, that it be substantial, the magistrate set bail for the accused at $300,000 each, until April 2.
Prior to their next court appearance, Ali and Jeet are to report to Alberttown Police Station every Friday.
Defence counsel Sonia Parag said the men will vigorously defend themselves against the allegation of which they are innocent.
